MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2020

 

            The mayor & Town Council met on Monday, February 3, 2020, in regular session at 9 A.M., in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Chambers, in Pollock, Louisiana.  The following Members were present:  Mayor Jerome Scott, Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Deborah Tumminello, Councilman Ron Wilkins, Councilwoman Misty Kinn. Absent was Councilman Carroll Cathey.

            Mayor Scott called Town Meeting to order by leading the “Lord’s Prayer”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Mayor Scott welcomed guests and went on to officially announce that both general merchandise stores (Family Dollar & Dollar General) have been completed, are open for business, and had Grand Openings. He thanked Councilwoman Dee Thorne and her husband Alton Thorne for taking care of the Grand Openings. Mayor Scott also thanked them for the part they played in bringing each of the stores to Pollock.

            A motion was made to adopt the January 6, 2020, Town Council Meeting Minutes by Councilwoman Dee Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Misty Kinn. On a roll call vote: 3 yeas, 0 nays, 1 abstain (Tumminello) and 1 absent (Cathey). The motion passed.

            Mayor Scott opened the Town Council Meeting for Public Comments. Ms. Jade Martin of 3879 Highway 8 West, Pollock, Louisiana, requested a waiver of the Town of Pollock Zoning Ordinance at her home (3879 Highway 8 West) FROM HISTORICAL/RESIDENTIAL TO COMMERCIAL to allow her to open a business selling boiled crawfish and processing deer.  Town Attorney Greg Jones referred her waiver request to the Town of Pollock Zoning Commission for review. The request will be taken up again at the next Town of Pollock Council Meeting (March 2, 2020).

            Mayor Scott opened the meeting for Town Council Member Comments. There were no comments.

            A Resolution of Substantial Completion for the F.Y. 18 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant project was introduced by Councilwoman Dee Thorne and seconded by Councilwoman Misty Kinn. On a roll call vote: 4 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent (Cathey). The motion carried.

            Chief of Police Chris Paul disseminated the Town of Pollock Annual Police Report for 2019, as well as the Town of Pollock Monthly Police Report for January, 2020.  Chief of Police Chris Paul went on to say that Officer Jody O’Bier is now a Certified Taser Instructor.  He announced that he will be purchasing a new Chevrolet Tahoe for the Town of Pollock Police Department.

            The Town of Pollock Financial Report (For January, 2020) was disseminated.

            Mayor Scott announced that the 15th annual Krewe of Pollock Mardi Gras Children’s Walking Parade will be held at 10 A.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2020. All children and youth are invited to participate.

            A motion was made to adjourn by Councilwoman Deborah Tumminello, seconded by Councilwoman Misty Kinn. All in favor, 4 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent (Cathey). The motion carried.
