Town Council Meeting Minutes
March 7, 2022

 

The Mayor & Town Council met on said date in a Regular Session at 6 P.M. in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, La.

The following members were present: Mayor Douglas Beavers, Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Cindy Dickey, Councilman Mike Cryer, Councilman Sheldon Smith, and Councilwoman Misty Kinn.

 

Mayor Beavers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilwoman Thorne, followed by the Lord’s Prayer led by Councilwoman Kinn.

Mayor Beavers welcomed guests.

Meeting opened for public comments or questions from anyone in attendance.

Citizens that preside on Georgia street were present to discuss problems with vehicles going too fast on the streets and their children being in danger when playing outside. They requested that speed bumps be placed on Georgia street to slow down the traffic.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilman Smith to install speed bumps on Georgia Street. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to approve the monthly Meeting Minutes of February 7, 2022, town council meeting. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Reverend Brian Gunter, of First Baptist Church, Pollock and guest Mr. Mark Lee Dickson spoke concerning the possibility of Pollock becoming the first city in the state of Louisiana to be a Sanctuary City for the unborn. They presented the council information to review.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilman Smith to set a special meeting time to discuss the Sanctuary City Ordinance.

Councilwoman Thorne updated the council on the expected arrival date of the equipment for the new playground.

Pan American Engineers representative Spencer Gauthier was present. He requested that the council add Love Louisiana Outdoors Program Resolution to the agenda and adopt the same Resolution to submit application to the State of Louisiana, CDBG Section for 2022/2023 Love Louisiana Outdoors Program for funding.

Motion by Councilwoman Kinn, seconded by Councilwoman Thorne to add the Resolution to submit an application for funding to the Love Louisiana Outdoors Program. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Absent 0, Abstain 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Kinn, seconded by Councilman Cryer to adopt the Resolution to submit an application for funding to the Love Louisiana Outdoors Program. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Absent 0, Abstain 0. Motion carried.

A representative with the town’s CPA was present. She reported that all was good with the town.

Chief Chris Paul was not present. The police department report was reviewed.

The water/sewer department report was given by Matt Dezendorf at which time he discussed surplus equipment the town has and is no longer using. More specifically, three floating aerators which have been replaced and need repair. The Village of Dry Prong is interested in entering into a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Town of Pollock and acquiring the surplus equipment.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to declare the three floating aerators as surplus equipment and donating them to the Village of Dry Prong. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with the Village of Dry Prong.

Town Attorney, Greg Jones, discussed the recommendation of the alcohol control board concerning Grant One Stop’s application for an alcoholic beverage permit.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to issue the permit to Grant One Stop. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilman Cryer to add the discussion of a vapor product ordinance to the agenda. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Kinn, seconded by Councilwoman Dickey to adjourn. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried. Meeting Adjourned.
