Town Council Meeting Minutes
February 7, 2022

 

The Mayor & Town Council met on said date in a Regular Session at 6 P.M. in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, La.

The following members were present: Mayor Douglas Beavers, Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Cindy Dickey, Councilman Mike Cryer, Councilman Sheldon Smith, and Councilwoman Misty Kinn.

 

Mayor Beavers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Councilwoman Dickey, followed by the Lord’s Prayer led by Attorney Greg Jones.

Mayor Beavers welcomed guests.

Mayor Beavers updated the council on the pavilion project in Foster Park. There was a discussion concerning Mardi Gras and agreed upon to have a drive thru parade in the parking lot of the Town Hall. The Dogwood Festival will be the first weekend in April and the Town will have a float in the parade that the council members will ride on.

Meeting opened for public comments or questions from anyone in attendance.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to approve the monthly Meeting Minutes of January 4, 2022, town council meeting. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Councilwoman Thorne updated the council on the plans for the new children’s park. Gametime has estimated a start date as the end of March.

Pan American Engineers representative Spencer Gauthier was present.

The town CPA was not present.

Chief Chris Paul presented his monthly report as well as a 2021-year end report. The police department had a great year.

Town Attorney, Greg Jones, discussed the proposed alcohol ordinance and vapor product ordinance.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilman Cryer to add the discussion of a vapor product ordinance to the agenda. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Dickey to introduce the ordinance to authorize and establish the rules governing the sale of vapor products and cannabis products within the corporate limits of the Town of Pollock for publication. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

A public hearing was set for Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 5:45 P.M. and a special meeting to follow at 6:00 P.M. at the town hall for the purpose of presenting Ordinance # 21-1206 and Ordinance # 22-0001 for adoption.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilman Smith to approve a right of passage on Durham Road to Mr. Winston Pace for the purpose of timber removal from his property, subject to contracts and proof of insurance. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Kinn, seconded by Councilman Smith to adjourn. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried. Meeting Adjourned.
