Town Meeting Minutes
TUESDAY, September 3, 2019
The Mayor & Town Council met on said date in a Regular Session at 9:00 a.m., in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, Louisiana The following members were present: Mayor Jerome Scott, Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Deborah Tumminello, Councilman Ron Wilkins and Councilwoman Sharon Zeh. Absent was Councilman Carroll Cathey.
Mayor Scott called Town Council Meeting to order by leading the “Lord’s Prayer”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Scott welcomed guests.
A motion was made by Councilman Wilkins, seconded by Councilwoman Thorne to approve the Regular Town Council Meeting Minutes of August 5, 2019. Roll call vote: 4 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent (Cathey). Motion carried.
Mayor Scott then opened the meeting for Public Comments. Mr. Jon Bladel requested that his property be un-annexed at the old sawmill site to railroad on 3709 Patterson St.. The Town Council members asked Mr. Bladel to submit a letter to each of them before the next meeting, detailing the reasons for un-annexation and detailing the intended use of the property. Mr. Bladel said that a letter to each member would be forthcoming. This will be added to the Town Council Meeting Agenda for the October meeting.
Mr. Alton Thorne presented a cost estimate that he personally got from Grant Eastern Construction for installing a culvert in the ditch on John Street across the street from the rear of his and Councilwoman Thorne’s home. Attorney Gregory Jones stated that he would contact Pan American Engineers concerning the matter.
Mayor Scott opened the meeting for Council Comments: Councilwoman Thorne stated that Councilman Carroll Cathey sent word that he would like for the monthly Town Council Meetings to be changed to evenings. This has to be done by Ordinance and WAS changed by Ordinance (from evening to morning) a few years back at the request of public citizens.
Attorney Greg Jones asked the Town Council to approve the donation of a used Police Vehicle donation from City of Plaquemine, Louisiana. A motion was made by Councilman Wilkins to accept the 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe C1500, White, and VIN. #1GNLC2EOXCR180894 donated to Town of Pollock, seconded by Councilwoman Zeh. Roll call vote, 4 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent (Cathey). Motion carried.
Chief of Police Chris Paul disseminated his monthly Police Report.
Town Clerk Judy Shelton disseminated the monthly Town of Pollock Financial Report.
Mayor’s report: The town has started a BLESSING BOX project. Donations are being collected now. The purpose of this project is to feed those who have difficulty feeding themselves. “Mrs. Joy Bradford has been very helpful and instrumental, and I certainly appreciate her initiative. The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department inmates will build the box, according to Sheriff McCain.” Councilman Wilkins thanked Mayor Scott for his effort and stated that he is impressed with this community project for the needy
A motion was made to adjourn by Councilwoman Zeh, seconded by Councilwoman Tumminello. All in favor, 4 yeas and 1 absent (Cathey). Motion carried.
