Town Council Meeting Minutes
January 3, 2023
The Town Council met on said date in a Regular Session at 6 P.M. in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, La.
The following members were present: Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Kayden Lamkin, Councilwoman Kasandra Hooter, Councilman Sheldon Smith and Councilman Alan Williams.
Mayor Beavers called the meeting to order. Councilman Smith led the Lord’s Prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilwoman Lamkin.
Mayor Beavers welcomed all guests and new council members.
Meeting opened for public comments or questions from anyone in attendance concerning agenda items following LSA R.S. 42:14. There were no comments.
Motion by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilwoman Thorne to approve the monthly minutes of December 2022 regular town council meeting. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilwoman Hooter, seconded by Councilman Smith to approve the minutes of the special town council meeting held on December 14, 2022. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.
Mr. Gary Barth was present and asked the council to consider the possible annexation of Simms Rd Chevron into the Town of Pollock.
Motion by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilwoman Hooter to declare the old police units that have been wrecked and sitting up for several years as surplus as well as other materials no longer of use and to authorize the town employees to have them hauled away as scrap, in an effort to clean up around the shop.
Pan American Engineers representative Spencer Gauthier was present and gave a report on the fitness park project.
Chief Chris Paul was present. The police department report was reviewed. Chief Paul informed the council that one of the town’s officers had left employment with the town and that he had to hire a new officer.
Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Hooter to approve the new officer. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.
Town Attorney, Greg Jones informed the council that sexual harassment and ethics training should be completed as soon as possible. He presented information on blighted property for the council to review.
Motion by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilwoman Hooter to adjourn. Roll call vote: Yeas 5 Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried. Meeting Adjourned.
