A public hearing was held on July 7, 2022, at 5:45 P.M. for the purpose of discussing proposed amendments to the Town of Pollock Zoning Ordinance related to R-1 Residential Districts and Modular Homes.

Town Council Meeting Minutes

 

The Mayor & Town Council met on said date in a Regular Session at 6 P.M. in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, La.

The following members were present: Mayor Douglas Beavers, Councilwoman Dee Thorne, Councilwoman Cindy Dickey, Councilwoman Kasandra Hooter, Councilman Sheldon Smith, and Councilwoman Misty Kinn.

 

Mayor Beavers called the meeting to order. The Lord’s Prayer was led by Councilwoman Hooter followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilman Smith

Mayor Beavers welcomed all guests.

The meeting opened for public comments or questions from anyone in attendance concerning agenda items in accordance with LSA R.S. 42:14. There were no comments.

Motion by Councilman Smith, seconded by Councilwoman Thorne to approve the monthly Meeting Minutes of June 6, 2022, town council meeting. Roll call vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Town Attorney, Greg Jones, discussed the public hearing concerning the zoning ordinance and the proposed changes.

Motion by Councilwoman Dickey, seconded by Councilwoman Kinn to amend the zoning ordinance to allow modular homes in an R-1 Residential District. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Dee Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Cindy Dickey to add to the agenda the discussion of the purchase of ballistic shields for the police department. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Motion by Councilwoman Dee Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Cindy Dickey to authorize the purchase of ballistic shields for the police department by the town. Roll call vote:  Yeas 5, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried.

Mr. Steven McKay, with the town’s CPA firm, was present.  Mr. McKay presented the audit.

Pan American Engineers representative Spencer Gauthier was not present.

Chief Chris Paul was present. The police department report was presented and reviewed.

The water/sewer department supervisor was present. He reported that the wet well at the town sewer pond had been relined.  He also said the basin at the sewer treatment plant would need to be fixed and that the three lift stations project was close to starting. 

Councilwoman Thorne reported on the park project and the expected completion date.  

Councilman Smith said that he felt the town had a great turnout for the Red, White, and Boom celebration and that it was an enormous success.  He thanked everyone for their hard work to put the event together.

Motion by Councilwoman Thorne, seconded by Councilwoman Dickey to adjourn. Roll call vote: Yeas 5 Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 0. Motion carried. Meeting Adjourned.
