Town Council Meeting Minutes

APRIL 2, 2018

 

            The Town of Pollock Mayor and Town Council  met on Monday, April 2, 2018 in a regular session at 9 A.M., in the Pollock Municipal Building Council Room, Pollock, Louisiana. The following members were present: Mayor Jerome Scott, Councilwoman Sharon Zeh, Councilwoman Deborah Tumminello, Councilman Ron Wilkins and Councilman Randy Estes.

           Mayor Jerome Scott called the meeting to order by leading the Pollock Town Council & guests in the “Lord’s Prayer”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Scott welcomed the guests who were in attendance at the Council meeting.

            A motion was made by Councilwoman Zeh, seconded by Councilman Wilkins to approve the March 5, 2018 Town Council Meeting Minutes. Roll call vote: 4 yeas, 0 nays. Motion carried. 

           The meeting was opened to the public.  There were no comments from the public.    Mayor Scott then opened the meeting to the Town Council for comments.  There were no comments from the Town Council members. Mayor Scott reminded Council of the Dogwood Parade on Saturday, April 7th.  

            Pan American Engineer not present.  Unable to attend.

            Town C.P.A., Mr. Steven McKay, was unable to attend.

            Mayor Scott declared a vacancy on the Town Council due to the resignation of long-time Councilwoman June Emily “Penny” Johnson.  Her resignation was submitted to Mayor Scott as well as to the Secretary of State, and cited health issues as the reason for resignation.  A motion was made to approve Mayor Scott’s vacancy declaration by Councilman Estes, seconded by Councilwoman Tumminello.  On a roll call vote, Zeh – yea, Tumminello – yea, Wilkins – yea, and Estes – yea.  4 yeas and 0 nays.  The motion carried.  At this time, Mayor Scott asked Ms. Constance “Connie” Vanantwerpen to please come forward, and introduced her to the Town Council.  He then appointed Ms. Vanantwerpen as the new Town Councilwoman to fill the vacancy until the upcoming election.  A motion was made by Councilwoman Zeh, seconded by Councilman Estes to approve Mayor Scott’s appointment of Constance “Connie” Vanantwerpen to fill the vacant position as Councilwoman until the upcoming election. On a roll call vote: Zeh – yea, Tumminello – yea, Wilkins – yea and Estes – yea. 4 yeas and 0 nays. The motion carried.  Attorney Gregory Jones performed Ms. Vanantwerpen’s swearing-in as Town of Pollock Councilwoman.  

            Councilman Estes suggested that the town purchase a plaque for Mrs. Johnson for her many years of service on the Pollock Town Council and that it be presented to her at the May Town Council Meeting.  Mayor Scott agreed.

            Mayor Scott and the Town Council were presented with Chief Paul’s Police Report.

            Town Clerk Judy Shelton disseminated the monthly Town of Pollock Financial Report.

            During the Mayor’s Report, Mayor Scott reminded everyone about the Dogwood Parade and Festival that will be held on Saturday, April 7th.  The parade will proceed at 10:00 A.M.  Mayor Scott also reminded everyone about the Town of Pollock’s first Family Movie Night, to be held at the amphitheater next to the Municipal Building on Tuesday, April 3rd.  He stated that the movie, “Despicable Me” will be shown at 7:30 P.M.  There will be drinks, popcorn, candy and other treats.  “Everyone should have a great time.  I am so excited to be able to offer this to our community family.  Seating will be available in the amphitheater, or individuals may bring lawn chairs or blankets.  We have a great little town, and the people of this town deserve a night out.”  

          A motion was made to adjourn by Councilwoman Vanantwerpen, seconded by Councilwoman Zeh.  The motion was approved by all.
